Osborne Station

In the summer of 2010 work began on the construction of Osborne Station. The station will be built on a Transitway bridge that crosses over Osborne Street just north of the CN underpass. Foundation work was completed over the winter and the erection of bridge girders began in May 2011.

Weekend road closures are scheduled during June and early July to allow the girders and the framework for the Osborne Station structure to be placed safely. Once the girders and framework are in place, a concrete bridge deck will be constructed, followed by construction of the station. This work is scheduled to be completed by December 2011.

Transitway Tunnel Construction

The Transitway tunnel is being constructed in two stages to allow the CN mainline to continue operating uninterrupted. Stage one (the northern half) was completed in the fall of 2010.

Work on the Transitway tunnel (southern half) continued through the winter months after a temporary relocation of the CN mainline was completed.

In February 2011, a steel sheet pile shoring system was installed to allow excavation of the tunnel to take place. This is followed by construction of the concrete tunnel itself. Work on the entire tunnel will be completed by September. Following this, construction of the Transitway through the tunnel will be undertaken for completion by November 2011.

During summer 2011, work will continue on the northern half of the tunnel with installation of wall tiles, ceiling paint and lighting.

Transitway Construction

Work towards the completion of the Transitway along Donald, Stradbrook, and in the Fort Rouge Yards continues during 2011.

The Donald Street/Stradbrook section of the Transitway, which began in 2009, will be completed by December 2011.

During summer/fall 2011, construction will include Harkness Station (located at Stradbrook and Harkness), the reconfiguration of the intersection at Queen Elizabeth Way & Stradbrook (to allow southbound buses to enter the Transitway), and the connection of the Transitway to Osborne Station (currently under construction over Osborne Street – just south of Osborne Junction).

Construction of the Transitway through Fort Rouge yards began in 2009 with the installation of the land drainage system and continued with the Morley Ave extension to the new Fort Rouge Station and Transitway in 2010.

During summer 2011, construction will include the completion of the Transitway through the Fort Rouge yards and through the Transitway Tunnel, Fort Rouge Station, and the extension of Morley Avenue to Fort Rouge Station. Once this work is completed, the Transitway will be connected to the Pembina/Jubilee overpass, with some intersection modification required.

Warsaw Ave will be reconstructed east of Pembina Highway to provide a bus-only connection to the Transitway at Osborne Station. This will allow buses operating on 64 Lindenwoods Express, 65 Grant Express, and 66 Grant to use the Transitway to and from Downtown, thus avoiding traffic congestion through Osborne Junction and along Donald Street. The work on Warsaw Avenue will include the installation of new traffic signals at Pembina and Warsaw.
